How to end a marriage…

Start with a functioning kitchen…

Next, rip it out. Finally, attempt to live in a kitchenless house with two small children, a sister, her husband and a dog…

Yep, kitchen remodel here we come…

We spent Sunday packing (frantically). Robb had to work on Monday (as did I) which meant a rush to get two kids fed, dressed and off to school with packed lunches, while also taking a conference call, prepping for a meeting, packing up the last bits of stuff in the kitchen, and dealing with a garage fridge full of moved food that was not cooling properly. Good times. That hopefully explains why this is the best before shot I could muster. IMG_4679

Some other befores:

This is the living room looking into the kitchen

Kitchen looking into living room (it’s cleared out too so that we can have the floors pulled up (I’ll explain in a sec).

Some afters (from the end of the day – nope, not done yet – only 29 days to go…)

This is the kitchen looking into the foyer (and living room which is behind the plastic). We had the tile removed with the intent of getting back down to the heart pine… this is a picture showing the layers – tile, cement board, strip pine (the heart pine is under the strip pine – what the what??)

The cement board was screwed down along the perimeter of each sheet. This makes getting the cement board up a pain, not to mention that one guy now has to remove all the screws before they can start to pull up the strip pine…

Our contractor thought he was at the intended floor when he saw what was under the cement board (strip pine) but with a little guidance from Robb and a crowbar he realized there was one more layer to go…

Here’s the back of the kitchen cleaned out. The strip pine should be up tomorrow (fingers crossed).

Here’s the front of the kitchen.

And finally, some cute pics from Mom Mom’s visit. We can’t thank her enough for the 4 weeks – I imagine she’ll have to sleep for a week to recover after the crazy !!

Yep, heard him yelling, went in to see what was happening and found him trying to get down from the sink he’d climbed into. Really? All I asked for was a healthy baby that WAS NOT a climber… thankfully the contractor took me seriously when i said I really needed extra blocking behind the sink…
