A Christmas miracle…

It all started…

Last night before bed Robb realized he’d lost his wedding ring.

We searched the house and the sink drain to no avail.

We guessed the only other real possibility was that he had lost it earlier that evening on the way to, or at, the square, where we had gone for a tree lighting at the local bookstore.
We’d biked down, grabbed a coffee, watched Santa light a tree while we played with friends in front of Little Shop of Stories and around the courthouse.

So… In essence, about 1/2 mile of search area for a one inch ring… Hmmm.

In the hopes we were right about when / where (broadly) the ring was lost, Robb walked Kieran to school and kept an eye open along the route – no ring.

Next he decided we might as well try the square even though it was a long shot – large area, 15 hours after the event and in a part of town that sees 1000’s of people walking through. Even if he lost it there, what are the chances?  If it was easy to spot someone probably had picked it up, and if not easy to spot, our chances of finding it were poor.  I played along to be nice but had no real hope.

We started with the main parking lot we were standing in the night before. As Robb looked he was approached by a city parking attendant – surely we looked crazy peeking under cars. He explained, she enlisted, then she pointed at something…. the whole interaction happened in about 1 min…and…It was Robb’s ring!

It had been run over (a few times at least) but not in the squished direction, just the badly scratched direction.  Wow!

Next, we decided to walk over to Decatur City  Jewelers, where we bought the ring 8 years earlier, to see if Brett could repair it. 15 mins later we walked away with a slightly scarred but better storied ring, at no charge.  What a pleasant and unexpected result. I love Decatur.
