An Accounting of Weight and Words

Officially weighed in at 17lbs 6oz. Turns out that he’s so far off the traditional  CDC (Center for Disease Control) growth chart that they decided to pull out the WHO (World Health Organization) Chart and see how he fared there. He made it onto the WHO chart albeit in the 3rd percentile. For those of you who are wondering what the difference is, basically, the CDC chart is based on American kids (many of whom are milk and corn fed and therefore outsized when compared to the rest of the world’s children) – the WHO chart represents the rest of the world’s children.  Note both charts exclude obese or undernourished.  On the plus side – he’s 28″ tall which is >50% on the CDC charts.

But…

What he lacks in weight he makes up for in words – the pediatrician was rather impressed with his ramblings during his visit.  So far he says the following (often in a fashion only we can translate):  duck, banana, NO, dog, octopus (new today), apple, bye bye, down, more, turtle, alligator, bubble, UP, car, truck, train (he apparently likes transport), dada, mum mum (which means food), juice, ba, and milk.  Note that Mom or anything similar is missing from the list…
